Parmotrema crinitum is an epiphytic lichen species that occurs in a range of habitats, such as forests, savannas, and shrublands throughout the tropics and temperate zones. It can also grow on rocks in humid regions. The species occurs in the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Oceania. Despite deforestation and the conversion of natural habitats being potential threats to the species, its cosmopolitan distribution and wide range of niches make it possible to infer that its populations are stable. Therefore, Pcrinitum is considered Least Concern based on the IUCN criteria.
