Wrightoporia araucariae is a wood-rotting saprotrophic species. So far it has been found growing only on dead trunks of Araucaria angustifolia, which gives its name. There are just five records of the species in two localities in southern Brazil. It is estimated that the species is rare, due to the low occurrences in a well-sampled area. W. araucariae potentially follows its host distribution, which is considered Critically Endangered based on the IUCN assessment criteria. The species is threatened by the loss of its host, deforestation, agriculture, and human occupation. Furthermore, the impacts of climate change also threaten W. araucariae. Taking into account the few occurrences of the species and the critical situation of its host, W. araucariae is considered Critically Endangered based on the IUCN criteria.
