Rickiella edulis is a saprotrophic ascomycete species that grows on dead logs and branches, usually in an advanced rotting stage. There are 15 occurrences for the species in four different localities in Paraguay, Argentina, and Brazil. The species occurs in the Gran Chaco and Atlantic Forest biomes, both considered conservation hotspots. R. edulis is threatened by exotic species cultivation, intensive agriculture, cattle grazing, and city expansion. Because the species is considered rare, with few occurrences in well-samples areas, and the threats that its population is submitted, R. edulis is considered Endangered based on the IUCN criteria.
