Stropharia araucariae
Stropharia araucariae is a saprotrophic mushroom-forming species that grows on soil litter among grasses and leaves in Araucaria moist forests. The species is considered rare, as there are just 3 occurrences, all of them located in southern Brasil, in Rio Grande do Sul state. It is expected that the species occurs throughout Araucaria moist forests fragments in Brazil, as well as in a small part of northern Misiones, Argentina. The Araucaria moist forests has been reduced by 97%, and 80% of the remaining areas are small disturbed fragments, surrounded by croplands. It is estimated that the Araucaria moist forests will be restricted to microrefugia in high altitude areas by 2070, as an effect of climate change. Based on these threats to the species population and habitat, S. araucariae is considered Vulnerable under the IUCN assessment criteria.
