Russula rubropunctatissima is an ectomycorrhizal species, found growing on the forest floor, in dense groups. The species occurs in tropical and subtropical forest fragments nearby coastal areas. So far, there are six registers of Rrubropunctatissima, in French Guyana and in Atlantic forest regions in northern and southern Brazil. In Brazil, the species is mainly threatened by real state speculation, which is in expansion to hilly areas near the coast. In French Guyana, the species occurs in a primary forest fragment inside a national park, which seems to be the last fully preserved forest in the region. This area is open to tourism and it is surrounded by urban areas in expansion. Based on the threats to the species population, Rrubropunctatissima is considered Near Threatened by the IUCN A2c criterion.
